Large Group Fishing Charter Panama City Beach: One Boat, Up to 18 Guests, Zero Compromise

If you're trying to book a large group fishing charter in Panama City Beach, you've probably already run into the problem: most charter boats here only take six passengers. That means your family reunion, bachelor party, or corporate trip gets split across two or three boats, everyone ends up on different fish, the photos don't match up, and the day stops feeling like one shared experience.

That's exactly why we built what we built. The Reel GRooV is a 43-foot BHM offshore sport fishing vessel that comfortably hosts up to 18 guests on a single private charter — making us one of the largest charter boats in Panama City Beach. One boat, one captain, one crew, and your whole group together on the Gulf of America (also known as the Gulf of Mexico).

Why "Large Group" Is Hard to Find in Panama City Beach

Most charter boats running out of PCB are six-passenger vessels. That's the standard for a reason — it's the most common Coast Guard inspection class. But it also means anyone trying to plan a real group trip has to either:

  • Split into multiple boats (expensive, logistically painful, and the groups end up disconnected)

  • Book a head boat (where you're sharing a boat with strangers — not really a group trip at all)

  • Find one of the few large-capacity private charters that can take everyone at once

We're in that third category. The Reel GRooV is federally permitted to fish both Florida state waters and federal waters beyond the 9-mile limit, which means you're not just getting a bigger boat — you're getting access to better fishing grounds at the same time.

Who the Reel GRooV Is Built For

We see all kinds of group trips, but a few come up over and over:

  • Family reunions and multi-generational vacations. Grandparents, parents, kids, and cousins all on the same boat. Some people want to fish hard, some want to relax in the A/C cabin, kids want to take turns "steering" with Captain Gary. A bigger boat lets everyone do their own thing without splitting up.

  • Bachelor and bachelorette parties. Up to 18 people means the whole party stays together. No "the other boat caught all the fish" stories. (Speaking of which — for the lower-key party crowd, our booze cruise in Panama City Beach is another solid option.)

  • Corporate retreats and team-building trips. A day on the water beats a conference room every time, and one boat keeps the whole team in the same conversation.

  • Friend group vacations. That trip you've been planning for three years where everyone finally gets their schedules to line up — don't split it across two boats.

  • Wedding parties and anniversary trips. Big celebration, big group, one shared experience.

What the Reel GRooV Brings to a Group Trip

A bigger boat doesn't just mean more seats. It means a better day for groups that have a mix of energy levels and interests. Here's what's on board:

  • Air-conditioned cabin with cushioned bench seating and a table — somewhere cool to sit, eat, regroup, or escape the sun

  • Private onboard marine restroom on offshore trips (a real, clean restroom — not a bucket)

  • Spacious shaded back deck with room for serious fishing without anyone getting in each other's way

  • Bluetooth speaker system — Captain Gary loves playing music for guests and takes requests, so your group's playlist is part of the trip

  • Coolers and ice for the catch

  • USCG-approved life jackets in all sizes, including kids

A quick heads-up on accessibility: the Reel GRooV is not wheelchair accessible. Guests step over a small gap and a few steps onto the deck. If anyone in your group has mobility concerns, give us a call ahead of time at (850) 774-9007 and we'll talk through what to expect so no one is caught off guard.

Trip Options for Large Groups

Every trip on the Reel GRooV is private, so the boat is yours regardless of how many people you bring. Picking the right trip length depends on your group.

Bay Fishing — Best for Mixed-Age Groups and First-Timers

Calm, shallow, protected water inside the bay. Great for groups with young kids, grandparents, or anyone prone to seasickness. Targets include redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead, and Spanish mackerel. Less weather-dependent than offshore. See the bay fishing page for more.

4-Hour Deep Sea (Trolling Only)

Our most accessible offshore option. Beginner-friendly, family-friendly, and a great fit for groups that want a taste of offshore fishing without committing to a full day. Trolling only on this trip — we set lines for king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, mahi-mahi (in summer), bonito, and barracuda.

6-Hour Half Day

Trolling plus bottom fishing in federal waters. Targets include red snapper (when in season), grouper (subject to current regulations), triggerfish (when in season), amberjack (catch-and-release only — Gulf greater amberjack is closed for harvest through August 31, 2026), and mahi-mahi in summer. A solid sweet spot for groups that want real offshore fishing without an all-day commitment.

8-Hour, 10-Hour, and 12-Hour Trips

Longer trips push farther offshore to deeper, less-pressured waters. Better for serious anglers in the group, and the longer trips open up species like wahoo, tuna, marlin, and sailfish. A fuel surcharge may apply to the longer trips depending on diesel prices — we'll always disclose that at booking. Browse all our fishing trips to compare.

What's Included for Every Guest

We run all-inclusive trips, which is a big deal when you're planning for a group. You don't need to coordinate gear or licenses across 12 cousins. Every fishing charter includes:

  • All fishing gear, tackle, and licenses

  • Experienced captain and first mate

  • A/C cabin and private restroom (offshore trips)

  • Bluetooth speakers

  • Ice and coolers for the catch

  • Frozen and artificial bait

  • USCG-approved safety gear and life jackets

Bay fishing trips are slightly different — they don't include the A/C cabin or onboard restroom since the boat operates closer to shore.

A few things aren't included that are worth telling your group ahead of time: fish cleaning is available at Captain Anderson's Marina after the trip for a per-pound fee, crew gratuity (18–20% recommended, cash preferred) is customary, optional live bait is +$10 per person, and guests bring their own drinks and snacks in a soft cooler — no glass, alcohol allowed in moderation on private charters. Our guides on what to bring on a fishing charter and tipping fishing charters are worth sharing with everyone before the trip so the day runs smoothly.

Tips for Planning a Group Charter

A few things we've learned from running a lot of group trips:

  • Book early — especially for summer and red snapper season. Large-capacity boats are limited in PCB, and the dates that work for a group of 12 fill up fast. If you're planning around red snapper (the federal season is short, typically starting in June), book as soon as you have a target date.

  • Pick the trip length to fit the least-experienced person, not the most. A grandmother who's never fished probably won't love a 12-hour trip. A 6-hour half day is usually the sweet spot for mixed groups.

  • Send the group a pre-trip note. Reef-safe sunscreen only (no spray — it damages the boat surfaces and harms marine life), non-slip shoes, soft cooler with drinks and snacks, motion sickness meds taken the night before AND morning of, cash for tips and fish cleaning, and a cooler in the car for taking fish home.

  • Designate one point person. Group bookings go smoother when one person is the main contact for us — easier for everyone.

  • Talk to us about special touches. Surprise proposal during a sunset cruise add-on? Birthday surprise on the boat? Captain Gary has helped coordinate more than a few. Just let us know.

Captain Gary, the Crew, and the "Groovy" Vibe

Captain Gary Ray holds a USCG Master Merchant Mariner Credential and is a military veteran with deep local knowledge of these waters. He's known for the laid-back vibe, the music, the kid-friendly energy (he lets kids "steer" the boat — always a moment), and a genuinely warm hospitality style. That's the "groovy" we're talking about.

An experienced first mate is on board for every fishing trip to help with rigging, baiting, landing fish, and answering the questions first-timers always have. Quality customer service is a priority for us — we want every guest in your group to have the best experience possible.

We practice responsible fishing and follow all FWC and NOAA regulations to help protect Gulf fisheries for future generations. Catch and release is always an option for any species, any time — useful to know if some folks in your group just want the experience of the catch without keeping fish.

Why Book Direct With Us

Booking directly through Reel Groovy gets you our best rate — no third-party booking site fees layered on top. Direct booking also makes group logistics easier: we can talk through pickup timing, dietary preferences for snacks (you'll bring your own, but we can suggest what works on the boat), accessibility considerations, and any special requests. Our 5-star reviews are spread across Google, TripAdvisor, Viator, Yelp, Facebook, GetYourGuide, Kayak, Airbnb Experiences, and Captain Experiences, and we're listed as a preferred charter on Treasure Island Resort's fishing page. Kids under 5 ride free.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the maximum group size for a fishing charter in Panama City Beach?

On most PCB charters, six. On the Reel GRooV, up to 18. We're one of the largest charter boats in Panama City Beach, which is why we get most of the family reunion, corporate, and big bachelor/bachelorette bookings in the area.

Can our group split the cost of a large group charter?

Yes — that's how most groups handle it. Since the boat is a private charter (yours alone), the rate is for the whole vessel, not per person. The bigger your group, the lower the per-person cost. View current pricing on the specific trip page for whichever trip length fits your group.

Is a large group fishing charter good for non-fishermen too?

Definitely. The A/C cabin, shaded back deck, Bluetooth music, and onboard restroom mean people who'd rather not fish can still enjoy the day. Bay trips are especially good for mixed groups — calm water, lots to see, and a relaxed pace.

How far in advance should we book a large group charter?

For peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day, plus red snapper season), book as early as possible — ideally a few months out. Large-capacity boats are limited in PCB and group dates fill up fast. For shoulder season and winter, you generally have more flexibility.

Where do we meet the boat?

We depart from Captain Anderson's Marina at 5550 N Lagoon Drive, Panama City Beach. There's plenty of parking, and the marina has fish cleaning service available after your trip for a per-pound fee.
